“The world always looks brighter from behind a smile.”
Dr Portia is driven by the desire to help others transform their lives by giving them a beautiful smile, a healthy, properly-functioning mouth, and the self-confidence that comes with it.
Dr Portia obtained her BSc and BDS qualifications from MEDUNSA (now SMU), in 1999 and 2004 respectively, before working in both the public and private sector in her home province of Limpopo. She then furthered her qualifications by obtaining a post-graduate Diploma in Dentistry (PDD) from UWC in 2008. In 2014, she joined the University of Pretoria’s Oral and Dental Hospital, working in the prosthodontics department. In 2020, Dr Portia qualified as a Prosthodontist from the University of Pretoria, having obtained a vast amount of experience, particularly in full mouth rehabilitations.
Alongside her private practice, she works in academia, where she supports undergraduates in their clinical and academic endeavours.
“Dentistry has been my passion from a young age. Growing up with a form of dental malocclusion affected me in a negative way and made me reluctant to engage with people. Dental treatment literally changed my life. It gave me back my smile, and with that – my confidence.
This life-changing experience made me want to do the same for others. It made me realise the power of having a beautiful smile. Being someone with an immense empathy for people, as well as a natural aptitude for problem-solving and meticulous detail, dentistry and prosthodontics was the obvious career path for me. I’ve grown full circle from being the patient to being the dental specialist I am today.
I put all my appreciation, knowledge and passion into my work. I do everything I can to ensure a safe space for my patients. I also love a challenge, and being a positive person with a can-do attitude, I really enjoy working with my clients to find just the right solution for them.”
